HELP!!!
Right now I've been dealing with explosive mood swings for the past couple hours. Sometimes I get extremely depressed, other times I suffer anxiety, and another moment I get extremely pissed off at almost everything going wrong with my life and much of the world, envious of almost everyone...

Then I have the urge to slam doors, scream and cry, and bang on walls only no one would hear me or care.

Did I mention I'm on my period? My blood flow is heavy right now and my moods are downright awful. The heat isn't helping matters much either.

Is there any hope for my explosive PMS to be controlled? I can't go on birth control due to high blood pressure. Anti Depressants will kill me. Midol isn't strong enough.

Anything?

It's driving me and my friends insane. I can't take it anymore.

Current Mood: frustrated

Seriously, talk to your doctor about this. There are lots of options that don't involve taking Prozac every day (although that certainly helps some people). Google "PMDD" -- I bet you'll find it looks familiar.

Good luck whatever you end up doing.

really? I know birth control is one of them but the docs took me off it due to high blood pressure. i went on it to begin with because i had periods once or twice a year. and now my body just shifted into a regular cycle on its own for the past 7 months. Along with it, my moods turned wild. i won't have another yearly appointment until august or so...

I wouldn't wait a year with the symptoms you describe.

i meant august of '08- i got another few months to go yet. my insurance only covers one yearly exam and stuff like that. i'll bring it up then. it's 3 months away...

i am just speaking from my own experience, so don't think i'm trying to project onto you. i understand everyone's body behaves differently.

for me i have come to the realization that a the reason for a lot of my mood swings is simply because I DON"T FEEL GOOD. periods suck. i get cramps so bad i end up throwing up uncontrollably for a week, and sometimes it doesn't matter how much i take, it won't help. in that regard, no ammount of birth control will fix my problem, and i've had to accept that, and learn to live with that.

i've been to many doctors, and recieved many different treatments, none of which isolated and 'fixed' the problem, but that's me. i have since found my own routine that has worked to HELP, but not entirely fix the problem. would my routine work for anyone? absolutely not, but again, you have to listen to your own body and go from there.

a doctor may at least help alleviate some symptoms, and i whole-heartedly recommend that you at least talk to a gyn about this. if whatever he recommends doesn't work for you try try again!!! periods are trial and error. you have to find what works for you, and a lot of that STARTS with talking to a doctor about what you are experiencing.

gawd, i sound like a friggin' commercial. : O

either way, explore all your options, and try not to get to worked up over this. it takes patience to find these things out. : )

Bananas, avocados, and evening primrose oil are all supposed to be really helpful when it comes to PMS. That and cutting back on caffeine. I know you don't drink a lot of soda/coffee, so I'd give the others a try. The primrose oil actually works pretty well.
